I'm sure that there's an unofficial rule somewhere that states that cruise starliners must attempt to make their entrance halls as impressive as humanly possible. The logic is that if first impressions are the ones that last, then an eye-popping atrium should provide enough impression to cover up any of the more glaring problems on the ship (i.e. toxic food, parasites in the ventilation, or showers that are either way too hot or way too cold).
